摘要:Web databases when queried result in huge number of recordswhen users of query need a portion of those results which arereal interest to them. This problem can be solved using concepthierarchies. Knowledge representation in the form of conceptsand the relationships among them (Ontology) allows effectivenavigation. This paper presents provisions for categorizationand ranking in order to reduce the number of results of queryand also ensure that the navigation is effective. User should notspend much time to view the actual subset of records he isinterested in from the avalanche of records that have beenretrieved. For experiments, PubMed database which is in thepublic domain is used. The PubMed data is medical in natureand organized as per the annotations provided that isinstrumental in making concept hierarchies to represent thewhole dataset of PubMed. The proposed technique in this paperprovides a new search interface that facilitates end users tohave effective navigation of query results that are presented inthe form of concept hierarchies. Moreover the query results arepresented in such a way that the navigation cost is minimizedand thus giving rich user experience in this area. The empiricalresults revealed that the proposed navigation system iseffective and can be adapted to real world systems where hugenumber of tuples is to be presented.
