摘要:Background and Aims: Foreign body ingestion cases in adults are rarely encountered. We reviewed a patient who swallowed a teaspoon accidentally with minimal complaints. We aimed to investigate how proper ways of diagnosing and treating a adult patient with foreign body ingestion by a large literature review. Case report: 21-year-old male patient who accidentally swallowed a teaspoon, endoscopic extirpation is unsuccessful during the upper gastrointestinal endoscopy procedure in another hospital. A weak later, patients admitted to our outpatient clinic because of increased complaints. The vital signs, physical examination and laboratory findings were normal. Direct radiography of the abdomen was done and showed that the foreign body passed through the pylorus and was thought to be in the small bowel and confirmed with computed tomography. The patient was hospitalized for clinical observation, the patient did not want to have surgery, therefore conservative treatment was implemented. Twelve days later control abdominal radiography and computed tomography showed that the location of the foreign body was approximately in the recto-sigmoid. An enema procedure was done and during defecation the patient observed the foreign body fell into the water closet. After radiologically confirmation and normal laboratory findings, the patient was discharged. Discussion and Conclusion: When endoscopic extirpation is unsuccessful during the upper gastrointestinal endoscopy procedure and/or refuse surgery for foreign bodies ingestion such as a big metal teaspoon. We propose, in selected adult cases, closely follow-up for the foreign body to dispose via the natural way.
