摘要：RESUMO Nos paradoxos do nacional e do estrangeiro que marcaram o modernismo, o mal de Nabuco foi uma espécie de emblema com alto teor de significação cultural. Quase sempre é tratado sob a ótica da importação em matéria artística ou literária, mas pouco se fala do problema da paisagem e do fundo histórico, que estão no centro do que Nabuco exprimiu na famosa passagem de sua obra. Este é o primeiro prisma do artigo, que gira em torno do valor de ancianidade na experiência da paisagem, que se desdobra em reflexão sobre o papel da crônica de viagem na transfiguração real e imaginária do Brasil, na primeira metade do século XX. Por fim, o artigo trata da crítica e, sobretudo, da maneira como a geração lidou com a atração do mundo e o desejo da originalidade cultural brasileira.
其他摘要：ABSTRACT In the paradoxes of the national and the foreign that marked the modernism, the disease of Nabuco was a sort of emblem with high cultural significance. It was almost always treated from the perspective of an import matter, artistic or literary, but little has been said about the landscape and the historical background of its content. This the first point of this paper, which explores the value of ancientness at the experience of the landscape, very present in the reflection on the role of the travel chronicles in real and imaginary transfigurations of Brazil, during the first half of the twentieth century. Finally, the paper discusses the critique and especially the way by which that generation dealt with the attraction of the world and the desire of a Brazilian cultural originality.
