摘要：In this modern era of communication, Interpretation of image contents is one of the main objectives incomputer vision specifically in image processing applications. It has received much responsiveness of researchers. Inimage understanding the partition of the image into object and background is a crucial step. Segmentation techniqueseparates an image into its principle component regions or substance. Image segmentation needs to segment the objectfrom the background to understand the image properly and identify the bits and pieces of the image carefully. In thisperspective, edge detection operation is an elementary tool for image segmentation. In this paper an attempt is made tostudy the performance of most commonly used edge detection techniques with our proposed edge operator using graycode for image segmentation and also the comparison of these techniques with the proposed one is carried out with anexperiment by using MATLAB software
