摘要：Nigeria's agricult ure industry ha s p erformed ab ysma lly, notwithstandi ng t he importatio n and ut iliza tion of huge foreign machineries and equipment . The reason suggested is t hat in Nigeria's ag ricul ture ind ustry, the import ation and uti lizat ion o f fo reign ma chineries ha ve not been matched to the p eopl e's socio -economic and techno logical setting . Si nce 1 960 Nig eria has been imp orting eq uipment for different agricult ural processes and purposes wi thout a thoug ht as to t heir suitabilit y to t he a bility and soci o - techno logical system of t he p eople who use the machines. This study i s a joint effo rt o f the Na tiona l Bo ard for Technology Incuba tion and Hyd raulic Equip ment Develop ment Institut e, bo th o f the Federa l Mi nistry of Science and Technol ogy in Ni geria . The co llabo ratio n di scussed with the farmers in Ka no and Ji gawa Sta tes with a vi ew to finding their problem wi th eq uipment usag e in far ming and discovered that they fared better with ani ma l uti lizat ion than the tra ctor. The paper co nseq uent ly recommend s drastic mea sures to firmly establi sh and enhance anima l tra ction util izati on in No rthern Nigeri a, tog ether with similar app ropriate technolo gies in other ag ricultura l pro cesses.
