The species composition of the larval dragonflies assemblage was investigated in a permanent little pond Malá Vodárenská nádrž (altitude 733 m, the Štiavnické vrchy Mts, Slovakia), and the life history and voltinism of Aeshna cyanea (Müller, 1764) (Odonata, Aeshnidae) were inferred from size-frequency analyses of samples taken during one year. The assemblage consisted of eight generalist species and was dominated by A. cyanea . The instars of A. cyanea were discriminated based on measurements of head width and larval body length. There the species was semivoltine, and the instar distribution during winter was that of a “summer species”.
