  • 摘要:Like in a number of other European countries, Belgium currently debates donor anonymity. The essence of the debate is the right of the child to know, as far as possible, his or her parents and to be taken care of by them (Article 7 of the European Convention on Children’s Rights). The main problem with this, and other similar, articles is the interpretation of the term ‘parents’. Some read the first part of the article as ‘genetic parents’ and conveniently leave out the second part. If the second part is also read as ‘genetic parents’, one should abolish gamete donation since donors, by definition, will not take care of their donor offspring. This interpretation is diametrically opposed to the essence of gamete donation, namely that the social parents are the parents.
