  • 摘要:Purpose - The aim of the paper is to provide an overview of development of the Hungarian agri-food industry since 2004 and to point out the problems of this sector.Design/methodology/approach - The article basically is descriptive. Based on an investigation of different areas of Hungarian agri-food industry. The development of output, investment, consumer price index, employment, domestic sale and external agri-food trade of Hungarian agri-food industry are presented since EU accession.Findings - The agri-food sector has been decreasing since EU accession with respect to the contribution to the GDP. The number of employees declined continuously in the sector. The development of volume of domestic sale of Hungarian agri-food industry shows a dramatic collapse since 2007 and stopped falling only in 2012. The foods produced in Hungary are sold at a rate 64% in Hungary and 36% of them abroad. Since the EU accession the external trade did not only grow – disregarding the setback in 2009 – but also it has increased its presence in European Union markets (EU intra) compared to non-EU markets (EU extra).Practical implications - The researchers get proper data and reults for further investigation in this topic and results may help also the policy-makers to take the proper measures to improve the competitiveness of Hungarian agri-food industry.Originality/Value - The article describes the main characteristics of the Hungarian agri-food industry and outlines the tendencies that happened in the sector since EU accession
