摘要：After recalling the principal characteristics of the Functional Sentence Perspective formulated by Mathesius and the Prague Linguistic Circle, this paper aims to propose a new approach to the informational structure of the message, which is based on referential semantics and functional syntax.The theme is defined as a salient element, which means a center of a set of relationships involving intra- or inter-sentence connections.It underlines the interaction between sentence and text.
