摘要：Public service broadcasting has been an important tool of communication since the early decades of the 20th century. It began with radio which led to the development of television and today we are witnessing various facets of public service broadcasting. The purpose of this paper is to trace the history of the ideal of public service broadcasting and how it is being affected by the multicultural audiences and transnational relations in the face of modern developments. Radio, being the cheapest and easy to carry, is still the most effective source of information for a much large strata of the population and has an edge over TV, especially in rural areas of the world
