摘要:A specific character of HIV/AIDS has caused numerous complicatio ns either medical, legal or social. HIV infect ion expo ses its carriers to frequent acts of int olerance or stigma by the healthy part of t he populatio n. Negative social consequences fo und after detection and disclo sure o f HIV perfectly match the theory of stig ma by Go ffman. This t heo ry elucidates mechanisms o f stig ma or self – stigma affecting these members of the so ciet y t hat via t heir behavior or life style break t he basic social, moral and religious no rms. Despite numerous achievements, t his disease cannot be o vercome complet ely. People living wit h HIV/AIDS are still stig mat ized and d iscriminated in the society. They suffer being rejected and isolated by a family, partners and friend s. The result s demonstrated in the present review, obtained fro m the examinat ions conducted among people wit h HIV/AIDS, in Po land and abroad, att esting st igma, discriminat ion, low evaluat ion o f t he qualit y o f life are the basis for further in-depth stud ies concernin g this issue. This must reinfo rce educat ional efforts which will constrain inequalit y of peop le wit h HIV/AIDS, in Poland and abro ad.
