摘要:The re - flooding of the Ferlo Lower Valley in 1992 after a thirty - two year period of dryness up has allowed its colonisation by the fishes. An inventory has been undertaken in order to identify fish p opulations and relative abundance of species that now live in the Ferlo Lower valley. The fish sampling has been conducted using a battery of gill nets. Two sampling campaigns were conducted at five stations. Thirty - three fish species belonging to seventeen families were recorded in the Ferlo Lower valley. The most represented families were the Cichlidae (6 species) and the Claridae (4 species), followed the Alestidae, the Mochokidae, and the Bagridae, which w ere represented by three species each. The most abundant species were Tilapiaguineensis (30.6% of the total catches) and Sarotherodonmelanotheronheudelotii (26.1% of the total catches). The low frequency of large types of fish indicates that the ichthyofau na is mainly made up of small sized fish. The re - flooding Ferlo Valley created favourable conditions for the development of ichthyofauna. The shallowness of the water and the high level of development of aquatic macrophytes are particularly important facto rs for the growth of the young fish
