摘要:The kinetics of chromic acid oxidation of methyl cellulose (MC) in aqueous acidic solutions has beeninvestigated at constant ionic strength of 4.0 mol dm-3, spectrophotometrically. The experimental results showed firstorderdependence in chromic acid and fractional first-order kinetics with respect to [MC]. A kinetic evidence forformation of 1:1 intermediate complex was revealed. The hydrogen ion dependence of reaction rates indicated that theoxidation process is acid-catalyzed. The activation parameters have been evaluated and a tentative reaction mechanismconsistent with the kinetic results is suggested. The oxidation product of the substrate has been separated ascoordination biopolymer chelating agent precursor and was identified by elemental analysis and IR spectra. Itstendency for the oxidation product for chelating the polyvalent metal cations has been examined
