摘要:In this study ethanolic extract of Aegle marmelos was evaluated for its anti-ulcer activity against aspirininducedgastric ulcer in albino rats. Various biochemical parameters such as gastric volume, pH of gastric content, freeacidity and total acidity, total carbohydrate content such as total protein, hexoses, hexosamine, fucose and sialic acidwere estimated in alcoholic precipitate of gastric juice were examined on the test and control group of animals. Theextract concentration of 250 and 500 mg/kg exhibited a protective effect on ulcer-induced models in a dose dependentmanner and was comparable with the standard drugs Lansprazole. The extract of Aegle marmelos showed significantreduction in gastric volume, free and total acidity and ulcer index. The extracts possess significant gastro protectiveactivity as compared with standard drug. The present study revealed that the extract of Aegle marmelos leaves had ulcerprotective activity comparable with standard drugs Lansprazole, which may be mediated by its antioxidant effects.
