摘要:The aim of present research was to fabricate Levocetrizinedihydrochloride (LCTZ) lozenges, withgood mechanical properties, dissolution and producing an acceptable taste when placed on tongue. In the presentinvestigation Levocetrizinedihydrochloride lozenges were formulated as high boiled sugar hard candies to provide slowrelease of medicament for the treatment of allergic rhinitis. Levocetrizinedihydrochloride, an antihistaminic wasincorporated to relieve the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Fifteen batches of lozenges with drug were prepared usingdifferent combinations of sugar, liquid glucose, various grades of HPMC and Xanthan gum, citric acid, sodium citrateand aspartame. The hard candy lozenges were formulated using sugar as a base and the usage of corn syrup in theformulation made the lozenges transparent and smooth which helped in improving the elegancy of formulation.Designed lozenges were subjected to physico-chemical evaluation tests. Hard candy lozenges FL13, FL14 made withXanthan gum and had shown in-vitro drug release of 99.1%,98.2% of drug which were the best release amongst all.
