The purpose of the study was to find out the changes in the climatic conditions on a local basis and to determine the possible hydrological trend in total annual precipitation rate on the basis of non-parametric Mann-Kendall (MK) analysis coupled with the wavelet transformation. The MK test was performed to check out the periodicities mainly responsible for the trend of the total annual precipitation at four different districts in the northern Maharashtra region in between 1941 to 2004. The trend analysis was performed on 25 different model obtained by the various combinations of the coefficients generated by applying the Stationary Wavelet Transformation (SWT) decomposition of the precipitation time series. This un-decimated wavelet method provides the knowledge of the inherent trend in the hydro-meteorological time series present, if any. The analysis revealed that there exist increasing trend in the total annual precipitation and an evident 4 and 8 years periodicity with more than 95% confidence is found in the local climatic behavior and this discernibly affects the trend structure of the annual precipitation pattern.
