摘要：This paper examines how the work of Fernando Iwasaki connects with a long tradition of humorous autobiography based on self-deprecation. After some brief reflections on Socratic irony, on the cynical anecdotes, on the Franciscan hagiography, on the self-deprecating humour of Michel de Montaigne and on the humour of traditionally marginalized groups, I postulate the existence of a self-deprecating literary tradition and prove that the work of Fernando Iwasaki is one of its most interesting contemporary achievements.
