摘要:Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols play a significant role in maximi zing the lifetime of Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) by controlling the dominant sources of energy w aste, i.e., collision, idle listening, overhearing, and control packet overhead. Considerable research efforts are devoted to develop an energy efficient MAC protocol for WBAN. For this purpose, researchers have conducted a comprehensive study of the w ell- know low-power MAC protocols including WiseMAC , SMAC, IEEE 802.15.4 and PB- TDMA , and concluded that none of these protocols accommodate the heterogeneous traffic requirements of WBAN. Most of them were unable to satisfy the stringent Quality of Serv ice (QoS) requirements. We are working to extend the current w ork tow ards a complete and sophisticated WBAN system, which can be practically deployed in hospitals and healthcare centers. We propose prototype development to achieve energy efficiency and high throughput at different frequency band, a cross layer approach together with MAC protocol (at the PHY layer) for Medical Implant Communication Systems (MICS), Ultra-wide and Wireless Medical Telemetry System (WMTS) frequency bands in order to support a variety of medical and Consumer Electronics (C E) applications.
