摘要：This paper was designed to assess the impact of micro-credit scheme on poverty alleviation in Akwa Ibom State. Nigeria. The major objectives of the study were to investigate the extent to which micro-credit scheme could help in the reduction of poverty and also to determine the impact of it to small scale businesses in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria generally. In order to obtain adequate data for the work, 230 copies of questionnaire were distributed and a usable number of 200 were returned, sorted, collated, tabulated and analyzed using the Population t-test and Pearson product moment correlation coefficient statistical model. Result of the findings revealed that: micro-credit scheme has not significantly contributed to poverty alleviation in Akwa Ibom State. Another finding shows that micro credit scheme has contributed significantly to the growth of enterprises in Akwa Ibom State and of course Nigeria. It was therefore recommended that appropriate framework should be designed to monitor; evaluate and co-ordinate micro-credit scheme, in order to tackle the problems of poverty. Also micro credit loan scheme entities should extend their services to rural areas where most of the poor people live.
