摘要：One of the most discussed topics in Wireless SensorNetwork (WSN) is the routing protocol used in the networks.These protocols largely affect the performance and the lifetimeof the network as transmission of data uses a significantproportion of the total energy in WSNs. The sensors in WSNsrun using batteries thereby making energy consumption animportant design constraint for them. Over the years a numberof protocols have been suggested and implemented, howevereven today a lot of research is done on routing protocols forWSNs as a part of the continuous effort to increase the lifespanof these networks. Opportunistic routing (OR) is a conceptwhich is a combination of routing protocol and media accesscontrol. This paper gives an overview of the concept of OR anddiscusses its variants.
