摘要：Many people expect that, with the rapid development in the field of robotics and automation, the society may witness the realization of robots for human welfare. Interactive communication and collaboration in human/robots will be crucial issue to enrich human welfare and happiness in the society. And thus, the philosophical fundamentals, technological and psychological advancements and methodological extensions towards robots should be widely scooped. In many advanced countries, robots for welfare/rehabilitation have received special attention, and some forms of service robots are commercially available in the market. This paper reviews and discusses the major advances in robotics. Particular emphasis has been given to the applications and development in the area of human welfare like entertainment, education, service, medical, and defense robots. The future of robots for the welfare of society is explored. The issues and problems related to new research in robotics are discussed
