摘要:Blu-ray disc was developed as an alternative optical disc storage solution in the search for greater storage capacity using the same physical dimensions as the conventional DVD. By switching from a red laser to a blue (violet colored) laser, the wavelength used to read and write the disc shortened from 650nm to 405nm, resulting in five times more capacity than the standard DVD. Blu-ray's main drawback is its hefty pricing, which started at ridiculous sums. Its main competitor, HDDVD, attempted to undercut Blu-ray's sales by marketing at a lower price level, but eventually failed to maintain support and died out, leaving Blu-ray the victor of the format war. Even now, Blu-ray remains fairly expensive, leaving many possible consumers tentative in their decision
