摘要：Objective. To study a prevalence of tobacco smoking among adolescents in Ukraine. Study methods. Sociological (school-based survey), sanitary statistics. Results. A part of the children smoking now was established to make up 16.6% (boys – 18.7%; girls – 14.4%). The following negative tendencies in the prevalence of tobacco smoking among adolescents have been revealed: 28.3% of the children initiated smoking before age of ten; 3.7% of the children (the boys mainly) have or feel like having a cigarette first thing in the morning, that is a certain indication of tobacco dependence; besides cigarettes, other tobacco products (cigars, cigarillos, mini-cigars) become more popular among the adolescents (to 7.2%); 22.2% of the children suffer from second-hand smoking; a half of non-smoking respondents (the girls mainly) is ready to try to smoke next year (55.3%). It is a favorable indication that 86.6% of the students consider smoking should be banned in public places; 70.9% of current smokers want to stop smoking; a majority of the adolescents know about harmfulness of tobacco smoking and its negative consequences. We consider a lack of a due intercommunication among teachers, medical stuff, and non-smoking students (prophylactic work) and those who want to stop smoking (the ways for problem’s solution) is a main reason of negative tendencies in tobacco smoking prevalence.
