摘要：This quantitative and descriptive study (Thomas, Nelson, Silverman, 2007) aimed to verify if local factor influences the results of football matches. All the games that took place in the Gaúcho Championship, in the A and B football division, from 2000 to 2011, were analyzed. They totaling 5,047 matches and 11 games, in division B, were suspended. Data were collected on the site of the Federação Gaúcha de Futebol and were analyzed through descriptive statistics. The results indicated that, from 5,047 games played at home, there were 2,550 victories, 1,303 draws and 1,194 defeat. The findings of this study, concerning the prevalence of victories of the hometeam meet other studies already carried out (Corneya e Carron, 1992; Silva, 2004; Medeiros Filho e Haddad, 2008; Miguel, Calvo e Marcos, 2008; Silva, Medeiros e Silva, 2010; Colombo, 2011; Xavier, Casali e Guedes, 2011). Nevertheless, it is important to recommend that further researches should be performed correlating the impact of local factor with other variables that could influence the results of games.
