  • 摘要:Ojective. We assessed the concentration of methemoglobin in the blood of pre-school children in connection with the receipt of nitrates in the organism body with the daily food intake and identified the risk factors for asymptomatic methemoglobinemia. Materials and methods. The nitrate content in a daily food intake in 16 kindergartens was calculated and was assessed by calculating and laboratory methods. 90 menu - layouts and daily food intakes were analyzed and investigated. The concentration of methemoglobin, hemoglobin and erythrocytes' amount was determined in the blood, concentration of iron - in blood serum, concentration of nitrates, vitamin C, d-aminolevulinic acid - in urine. Results. We identified asymptomatic methemoglobinemia, increased concentration of iron in the blood serum on the background of a decrease of haemoglobin, total amount of erythrocytes in blood, increased concentration of aminolevulinic acid, nitrates, and decrease of vitamin C level in urine in a group of examined pre-school age children. Not only an ingestion of nitrates with the food intake but also lead that exceeds the permissible daily dose, as well as combined exposure of nitrates, nitrites, and lead, unbalanced nutrition, health state may be the risk factors for methemoglobinemia. We propose to define a blood methemoglobin concentration in children at profound medical examinations and entering to a hospital, to reduce a permissible daily dose for nitrates and nitrites, to monitor the amount of nitrates, nitrites, and lead in water and daily food intakes.
