Over the course of archaeological rescue excavations in the years 2009 and 2010, the remnants of metalworking processes in the form of slags and cast metal droplets were recorded in the town of Uničov. Analyses of thin sections, along with SEM-EDX and XRF analyses were carried out. The results indicate that the slags in all probability originated from iron smithing whereas the metal droplets arose from base metal processing. The results are in accordance with written sources which identify Uničov as a mining district centre as early as the 1 st half of the 13 th century.
