摘要:A Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)f o rthermal storage system by keeping PhaseChangeMaterial(PCM)inthecapsules has been developed andvalidated with experimental results.The thermal energy storagetank was developed using capsules in a unique arrangementduring the charging and discharging processes. Differentshape of capsules have been used forSimulationofthermalstoragesystemand analysisiscarriedoutonthesystem.The CFD results confirmed the importance of mutual effects onthe performance of thermal energy storage tank and showedthat an appropriately designed storage tank can provideimproved stratification conditions. The 3D transient CFDsimulations can be used as an effective tool to optimise thermalstorage tank parameters at early design stages, thus it may addto the value of the storage tank performance and efficiency, byoptimising the whole solar thermal energy storage system designand size. Thi s model endeavoured to de sc r ibe bothf reez ing and mel t ing proces se s of PCM.Sincethesystemisusedfordomesticapplication,thetemperatureofwater is to bemaintainedat 600C so forwhich Sodium thiosulfatepentahydrate(Na2S2O35H2O)are used as PCM in cylindricaltank with three types of capsules in this paper.
