In India, the rural healthcare system consists a three-tier infrastructure � Community Health Centres (CHC), Primary Health Centres (PHC) and Sub-Centres (SC). It provides accessible, affordable and available primary health care to the people in rural and remote areas of the country (WHO, 1978). The rural health care system provides basic and regular medical treatments with special health services like Infant immunization programs, Pregnancy related care, etc. Basically, the basic structural and serviceable health care unit of the public health services is known as Primary Health Centre (PHC). In this paper, the health care services which are provided by CHCs and PHCs in the state of Tamil Nadu is analyzed with the assistance of GIS techniques and statistical methods. Apart from that the problems and issues of providing health services to the people in PHCs also identified. The data are collected from the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (DPH & PM), Tamil Nadu and the Health and Family Welfare Department, Tamil Nadu. The conclusion of this study is to identify the role of PHCs in Health Care Services in the state and to find out the solutions of the problems in public health services. The result of this paper will be used to eradicate the problems in the rural health care system through giving solutions and suggestions to it. Some of the PHCs will need extensive upgrading facilities to provide appropriate health care services.
