摘要:Blood quantum, the measurement of American Indian ancestry possessed by members of America’s Indigenous nations, is most often considered a rubric utilized by the federal government in an oppressive form, or by tribal nations themselves as standards of tribal citizenship requirements.In this essay, the authors recontextualize blood as a medium of national identity within the context of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma.Such decentering, as presented here, illuminates Cherokee nationhood in ways that have significant political import.
