摘要：It is generally recognized that τ is changed to σ sometimes before u. The more precise conditions, however, are uncertain. The present writer tries to explain the change by showing that it is due to levelling between the forms in which the change occurred and the forms which stood in some relation to them. The forms treated are συρβη, συχυσζ, οiυη, ημσυζ, aησυροζ etc. While on this subject, he takes upthe problems of the phonetic value of -ττ-, -σσ- and of the origin of -α- in τεσσασεζ among others.
