摘要:Adverse reactions to pharmaceutical and diagnosticproducts constitute a major hazard in the practice ofmedicine and are responsible for substantialmorbidity and cost. Adverse drug reactions can bedivided into predictable and unpredictablereactions. Predictable reactions including drugtoxicity, drug interactions, and adverse effects aredose dependent, can be related to knownpharmacologic actions of the drug and occur inpatients without any unique susceptibility. Incontrast, unpredictable reactions are doseindependent, often not related to the pharmacologicactions of the drug and occur in susceptiblepatients. These include idiosyncratic reactions, allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions, andpseudoallergic reactions. Pseudoallergic reactionsresemble allergic reactions but are distinguished bythe fact that an immunologic mechanism is notinvolved.1 In this review, we will concentrate ondrug allergy, its underlying immunologicalabnormalities, clinical manifestations, diagnosisand management.
