摘要：The progress of the country depends on the quality of its teachers. Teachereducation is an integral component of the educational system. It is intimately connected withsociety and is conditioned by the ethos, culture and character of a nation. According to Dr.Radha Krishnan the teachers place in the society is of vital importance, he acts as the pivotfor the transmission of intellectual tradition to keep the lamp of civilization burning. He notonly guides the individual but also the destiny of the nation. So there is a need to improve thequality of teachers because the quality of education depends on teacher’s quality. In Indiateacher education programme is increasing quantitatively, but at the same time it isdecreasing qualitatively. There are many reasons of the degradation. This situation should beimproved immediately so that we can provide qualitative education. Quality is the cornerstone of today’s teacher education system and it makes an academic institution good or bad.Quality of teacher education is directly linked to how well the teachers are prepared forteaching. The emphasis of this paper is on the quality improvement in teacher education inIndia.
