摘要:Motivation is the driving force by which humans achieve their goals. Itisoften assumed to be a rather abstract concept (Dörnyei, 2001).In fact, it is thecombination of effort plus desire to achieve the goal of learning the language whichleads to a conscious decision to act, and which gives rise to a period of sustainedintellectual and/or physical effort in order to attain previous set goals.Accordingly,the current study was implemented in order to shed light on the effects ofteaching or training on university students’ motivation in learning English in nonnativecontext, namely, Iran.The research was conducted on a population of 44university students, all Persian speakers, majoring in English translation course atPayam-e Noor University infall semester of 2013-2014 academic year,Sirjan, Iran.Technically speaking, this study is based upon pre-experimental method(one grouppre-test post-test design).Interestingly,the results of quantitative findings revealed thatthere was not a significant difference in students’ overall motivation after thetreatment. Nevertheless, no notable differences between intrinsic and extrinsicmotivation, and between female and male participants’ motivation were detected. Inshort, it may be concluded that teaching or training activities have resulted in amoderate increase in learners’ motivational level and enhanced metacognition aswell.
