摘要:Research has shown that there might be a relationship between one’s ethnic identityand their level of language proficiency. This study aimed to investigate the most influentialethnic identity factors among Baluch participants and (2) determine which of the extractedcomponents of factor analysis contributes more to Baluch language learners’ level of Englishproficiency. To this end, 120 Baluch advanced language learners were selected. Theparticipants' level of ethnic identity was assessed by a 38 item 5 point Likert scale ethnic identityquestionnaire. Meanwhile, a language proficiency test was administered to determine thelanguage learners’ level of English proficiency.The results indicated that factor 1 (customs,social relationships and language), and factor 2 (culture and literature) were the majorinfluential factors. Further, the variance in the language proficiency of the Baluch participantswas significantly explained by factor 1 (customs, social relationships and language) and factor 2(culture and literature). In other words, it was noticed that customs, social relationships andlanguage, and culture and literature significantly contributed to the Baluch participants' Englishlanguage proficiency.
