摘要：Speaking is vital in day to day communication. Consequently, this paper highlightsthe main concepts regarding communicative tasks and speaking proficiency and their effect onthe choice of communication strategies. The paper also presents past and current studies relatedto this topic, especially the factors affecting the choice of communication strategies among thelevel of high, intermediate and low proficiency and their choices of strategies to solve languageproblems especially when they encounter communication breakdown. Furthermore, this paperexplains how certain communicative tasks as a factor affects the choice of communicationstrategies. Finally, this paper provides some insights into students’ selection of communicationstrategies to solve problems encountered during their communication process.
