摘要:Teaching English as a foreign language, particularly in public schools is not an easytask. Various hurdles pose serious challenges to EFL teachers while imparting an effectiveteaching process. In Libya, many EFL teachers face various challenges and difficulties whileteaching English as a foreign language. In order to explore and understand these challenges, thepresent study seeks to investigate the major problems faced by the Libyan EFL school teachers.Questionnaires, observation and informal discussions with the teachers were used as the basicresources for data collection. Findings revealed that most Libyan EFL teachers encounterdifferent problems including the lack of teacher-training and development of profession skills,lack of co-ordination among the teachers-school authorities and quality inspection authorities,shortage in the basic educational infrastructure, teaching and learning aids and materials, inaddition to the lack of motivation among most of the students. The findings also show that mostof the schools do not have ideal teaching and learning environment as undisciplined studentbehaviour was also reported as a common challenge that impacts the teaching.
