摘要:Optimization of energy is the fundamentalrequirement at all levels of system design in wireless sensornetworks. Routing protocol based on clustering is not onlyscalable with the dimension of networks but also offersefficient management of energy. Configuration of suitableclusters is the primary focus in design of cluster basedrouting protocols for wireless sensor networks. Of the mostdecisive factors to setup suitable clusters, energy anddistribution of nodes into clusters are the dominant ones. Inthis paper, an efficient cluster formation is presented basedon the fuzzy c-means clustering algorithm. The eligibility ofnodes to act as cluster head is defined with respect to theaverage residual energy so as to avoid premature collapse ofnetworks. The optimization problem consists of finding themost favorable set of cluster leaders from the eligible set sothat the communication distance of nodes from clusterleaders is minimized. The protocol is implemented inOMNeT++ simulation environment and experimental studiesreveal that the proposed protocol defeats LEACH, LEACHCand CHEF protocols with respect to the various networkperformance metrics
