  • 摘要:The Austrian Open Access Journal on Adult Education (Magazin erwachsenenbildung.at - Meb in German) is devoting its current issue, Issue 27, to the relationship between adult education and universities - a complex and explosive one in terms of educational and social policy. Different players describe and reflect on the challenges and demands of successful cooperation, citing current as well as long-standing graduate programmes, lecture and event series and research that have been successfully implemented in Austria. On account of their activities and didactics, science centers are discussed as a possible interface between universities and adult education and terms such as open science, responsible science and popular science are tested to see if they are appropriate for adult education research and practice. Hopes have been pinned on participative research to abolish hierarchies between researchers and "the researched". Recommendations are also made regarding what university continuing education can and should learn from adult education. After a historical retrospective of the changing relationship between adult education centres and universities in Austria, the focus shifts to Australia, where there is a longer tradition of cooperation in practical, political and academic research. All the approaches, projects and initiatives that are described have in common the wish to abolish historical hierarchies between the university and adult education in order to keep the dynamic relationship between these very unequal educational sectors egalitarian and thus to drive forward a democratization of knowledge and science.
