In the orthopedic literature of the past thirty years, many methods of treating fractures of the tibial shaft has been reported, and there has been many analysis of the end reesults of such treatments.
Since March 1990, we applied the olive stop wires for the treatment of the oblique or spiral fracture of the tibial shaft. By this technique, we could obtain more anatomical reduction with compression of fracture site, thereby stimulating fracture healing. Also, the complications following the closed treatment, such as shortening and malunion could be prevented.
So, we consider this to be one of good methods of treatment for oblique or spiral tiblal fracture even through we had limited cases and experiences.
