摘要：Resource poor regions in developing countries have yet to make the most of the benefits of the geographic information revolution. This report presents results of recent work at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) to test the potential of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for natural resources management in the Central American hillsides, the Peruvian forest margins and the Colombian savannas. The work presented here focuses on GIS applications and the obstacles and opportunities of applying the technology at local scales where economic development and environmental protection are both required
