摘要：A research initiative for the assessment of the impact of human-inducedchanges in Brazilian Amazon rain forests is presented. Data from satelliteimagery, topographic, vegetation and other maps are combined insideAMAZONIA, a geographic information system covering the entire region. As aresult, the extent and the rate of deforestation are being more accuratelyestimated and the refinement of models to assess the impact of deforestationin different physical processes was made possible by the availabitily ofgeoreferenced data.
