摘要:Over the last two decades there has been a gradual advancement ofdigital technology within most mapping organizations, especially in thefield of computer-assisted cartography, the efficiency of which isgreatly influenced by the processes of data acquisition; the encodingof various information for storage, and the manipulation of data withinthe system. Within any system environment the data must be structuredto facilitate both information access and retrieval. For thedigitization of existing graphics, several systems are discussed .Among them we find manual digitizing, automatic tracking (photo-sensingdevices or laser beam) and automatic raster scanning systems (drum orflat bed scanners) . Using aerial photography, data could be collecteddigitally during photogrammetric stereocompilation or automaticallyscanned for the production of profile data or dense digital elevationmodels . The effects of data acquisition systems on the process ofencoding and structuring cartographic information systems arediscussed. Special software for the structuring of data and possiblefuture systems are acknowledged
