摘要：Becoming an academic department head is one career path that some faculty see in their future. It can be a step in the direction of becoming a dean, vice president, or president. This essay is a reflection of my experiences and observations as a twenty year department head under four different deans. I hope that it conveys the good, the bad, and the ugly of the role of a department head.
