摘要:In an interconnected power system, as apower load demand varies randomly both areafrequency and tie-line power interchange also vary.The objectives of load frequency control (LFC) are tominimize the deviations in these variables (areafrequency and tie-line power interchange) and toensure their steady state errors to be zero. In this areaof energy crisis, renewable energy is the mostpromising solution to man’s ever increasing energyneeds. But the power production by these resourcescannot be controlled unlike in thermal plants. As aresult, standalone operation of renewable energy is notreliable. Hence grid-connection of these along withconventional plants is preferred due to the improvedperformance in response to dynamic load. It isobserved that fluctuations in frequency caused due toload variations are low with increase in penetration ofrenewable resources. Load frequency control (LFC)including PID controller is proposed in order tosuppress frequency deviations for a power systeminvolving wind, hydro and thermal plants owing toload and generating power fluctuations caused bypenetration of renewable resources. A systeminvolving two thermal plants, a wind farm and a hydroplant will be modelled using MATLAB.
