摘要：The purpose of this research is determination of the reasons of biology teacher candidates on their selection of biology teaching education and the effects of these reasons on their academic achievement level. Additionally, the reasons and academic achievement levels of the candidates were examined if they differ significantly according to the gender of the candidates. Quantitative data were collected and analyzed and bunched together in this study. Study involved the biology teacher candidates (N=66) who are second, third and fourth grade students of biology teaching department in 2010 ¨C 2011 academic year. t test and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, r applied and SPSS for Windows software was used for evaluation of the datum. Findings show that two main reasons of biology teacher candidates for choosing biology teaching department are inadequacy of their university entrance examination score for other departments they wanted more and love both the profession of teaching and biology branch. The number of teacher candidate girls and their academic achievement levels are greater than that of boys. The relation between the academic achievement levels and the reasons of department choice were not seen. At the end of the research, some suggestions about better guidance for students towards the profession and the studies which could be carried out in the area were made.
