摘要:Security is considered an important issuefor mobile communication systems. In particular, thedesign of authentication mechanisms has receivedconsiderable research interest recently. However,most of the current authentication schemes formobile systems only have simple security functionsand usually have some weaknesses, such as leakageof user identities and high update overhead oftemporary identities. Moreover, these schemescannot fulfill the security requirements specified inthird generation mobile systems (IMT-2000, UMTS).In this paper, we propose a secure and flexibleauthentication framework for mobilecommunication systems. In the proposedframework, service providers can dynamicallychoose authentication mechanisms without thecooperation of network operators in visited domains.Based on the new framework, a secureauthentication protocol is proposed. The proposedprotocol can satisfy the security requirements ofthird generation mobile communication systems.
