  • 摘要:Digital image compression technology is of special significance for the fast transmission and real-time processing of digital image information on the internet.A digital image in its original form carries a large amount of information in it which needs a huge amount of memory for its storage. . The basic approach of image compression is to reduce the number of the image pixel elements without affecting the original quality of image. It is basically achieved by removing the redundancy present in the image. The two most important techniques are lossy and lossless compression techniques. The principle objective of this paper is to discuss some basic compression techniques such as Huffman encoding, LZW coding, VQ compression and some recently used new hybrid techniques for compression.
