摘要:Within the endless stream of informationavailable on the media market, televisionchannels make choices which are transmittedthrough a selection of themes constituting, forthem, “the news” of the day or of the hour. This news is presented in the form of variousstories organized in a more or less complexsequence, mixing sounds, voices, images, andtext. These stories are themselves introducedin different ways: at intervals during theunfolding of the sequence, or at the beginningof the broadcast in the form of a list ofcontents recapitulating “the main headlines”of the news. In addition, throughout the newsprogram, embedding of various “back-ups” ofthe stories may be observed. Sometimes thenarration comments on the image; sometimesthe images illustrate the narration; sometimes, text appears as the heading of the story—sometimes with an explanatory value. Thenarration may also serve an intertextualfunction, bringing in various speakers whocontribute to the production of a singlenarrative thread through editing in the studio. All of this production of the news is carriedout not only through selection of themes, images and voices, but also through theirtreatment. Although the news items arepresented as objective accounts of actualevents of the day, they represent a selection ofthe news items available on the market(images, reports from correspondents, dispatches) according to criteria of relevance. The choice and the layout of these relevantitems, as they are organized in the practicalcontext of the production of television news, contitute the subject of this article.
