摘要：The paper deals with the problems encountered when attemptinga study o£ the relationship between land use and soil erosi0nin St . Catherine, Jamaica .It shows how existing classifications , being based on cover ,crop type or usage on the date o£ photography are unsuited£or the purposes o£ this project . Using the differencesbetween small- scale peasant holdings and the large scalecommercial holdings as an example , it shows how a classificationis derived and illustrates the kind o£ problemsencountered in carrying out photo- interpretation in the humidtropics .
