摘要：One major problem in developing a virgin rural site is todetermine the optimum type and distribution of 1the manybuildings and land uses that constitute a new town .In particular there is an urgent need to reduce to a minimumthe environmental impact on the original plant and animallife of the site . Aerial photography , at a scale of1 : 10, 000 , was flown in 1968 before any building had started,and this phot ography has been used as the sole source ofinformation to map the habitat resources of the new townsite.A discrete map was compiled showing the extent and distributionof habitat types. The map was digitised at 100 pointsper lkm2 and isopleths were drawn to show habitat valuedensity . This information is being used to assess existingand guide future development
